The second day of the XV International Forum and Exhibition “Transport of Russia” is over

The Anniversary Forum and Exhibition “Transport of Russia” is being held at Gostiny Dvor November 16-18. The second day of the event resulted as much comprehensive as the first one. The business program of the Forum included an international foresight discussion, 4 industry-specific conferences, 2 panel discussions, a round-table discussion, research presentation, extended session of the Committee for Transport and Development of Transport Infrastructure of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and 6 lectures of the “Knowledge. Transport” Studio.

The first format of the second day was the International Foresight Discussion “Driverless Transport:  the future has come, but are we ready?” The topics discussed by the participants included traffic safety when creating driverless logistics corridors, digital infrastructure commercialization, protection of personal and sensitive data. During the discussion, Kirill Bogdanov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the “Digital Transport and Logistics” Association expressed his opinion that the transport of the future is inevitably driverless: “Regardless of whether we want it or not, we will have driverless vehicles on our roads. I’m sure that pretty soon, in 2030, 2035, 2040, you’ll have to go to a special restricted area or range to drive your own car”.

The panel discussion “Transportation in Containers. Fulfilling the Potential” followed. The topics of the discussion included the infrastructure for transportation in containers that is required today and tomorrow so that the container traffic is doubled by 2035, ways to reduce the transit time for cargo delivery and ensure proper development of transport corridors through Russia.

During the panel discussion “The COVID-19 pandemic – a New Challenge for the Development of Urban Mobility” the influence of the pandemic on public transport and support from state authorities were discussed.

During the second half of the day, the conference “Strategy for the Development of a Highway Network in the Russian Federation” was held and at that conference plans regarding the development of a highway network in Russia were discussed and the round-table discussion “Reforming the Financial Model of Passenger Transport: Practical Aspects of Implementation of the "Gross-Contracting Approach"” was held.

The sector-specific conference “Autonomous Navigation” was the next item on the agenda. The participants discussed autonomous navigation technologies, its statutory regulation, navigation safety and coordination between autonomous and commercial navigation. Below are the comments made by Alexander Poshivai, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation with regard to the importance that sea trade has for the humanity: “If we focus on figures, 90% of the total amount of international trade are accounted for sea transport which makes it one of the fundamental elements of human life”.

During the industry-specific conference “Far Eastern Company. First Steps and Development Prospects” Alexander Neradko, Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency, declared that “the economic potential of the Far Eastern District is enormous.  By coordinating the mutual efforts of state authorities, businesses and society we will be able to achieve the set goals consisting in ensuring regular, comfortable and safe air transportation for the people of the Far East”.

After the conference, the Center of Infrastructure Economics presented its research about the current state, development prospects and advantages of using driverless aviation systems in the Russian Federation to the participants of the “Transport of Russia” Forum.

The last items on the agenda of the second day of the Forum included an extended session of the Committee for Transport and Development of Transport Infrastructure of the Russian Federation State Duma of the Federal Assembly and the industry-specific conference “Transport Safety at Railroads and Underground Systems: Principal Results and Perspectives for Development”. When delivering his presentation at the conference, Sergey Leonov, Deputy Director of the Transportation Safety Department of the Federal Railway Transport Agency told about the plans for implementation of the state policy in the transportation safety field: “We are planning to involve public associations, key employers and labor unions, and by using this format of cooperation with the professional community we will elaborate a standard that will take into account both the needs of the transportation infrastructure subjects and the natural conditions of working in this sector”.

Apart from the events included into the business program of the second day of the “Transport of Russia” Forum, the Exhibition was checked up by Vitaly Savelyev, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation. The Minister checked innovative developments presented by the exhibitors and tested an autonomous navigation technology through the example of “Rabochaya” Hopper based in Kavkaz Port at Rosmorport exhibition stand.
